Obituary for Dale Fletcher Coulter

Dale F. Coulter of Harrisburg, PA, passed away on January 9, 2015 in Cape Canaveral, FL. He was 80 years old. He was the devoted husband of Donna L. Coulter.

Mr. Coulter was born in Havre de Grace, MD to the late Howard L. and Beulah (Watters) Coulter. He was predeceased by his daughter Sharon Jarlsen.

He was the loving father to Lori Best (Tom), Denise Ridgely (Greg) and Dale Coulter, Jr (Kelly). He was the grandfather to Matthew Best, Andrew Ridgely, Allison Ridgely, Kaila Coulter and Grace Coulter, all residing in Maryland. He was the brother to the late Donald Coulter, Marvin Coulter and Hazel Wilson.

Mr. Coulter was a veteran of the United States Air Force with almost 40 years of dedicated service including both active and reserve duty, retiring with the rank of Chief Master Sargent. He also retired from the Federal Government as a Records Examiner for the United States Air Force Board of Military Correction of Records. He was a faithful member of the American Legion and the Elks in Maryland and Pennsylvania. In retirement, he took lessons in golf and bridge. Being competitive by nature, he practiced and played and was considered by his peers to be well above average in both categories. He and his wife traveled to every state in the Union, mostly by motorhome, and many foreign countries.

While he accomplished many things in life, his heart was always in Havre de Grace and the Chesapeake Bay. He continued the Coulter “waterman” family legacy of many generations that dates back to a Great Great Grandfather who was a “market gunner”. He went waterfowl gunning with his brother and nephews over decoys carved by his father. In the early spring he went commercial fishing occasionally taking his wife and children with him down the bay.
