Joel Dixie Smith, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on September 28, 2015. She was 75.
She was born in Street, MD to Gilbert Warner Hurley and Mary Iona Hurley. She was the wife of the late John Henry Smith. Joel was the devoted mother of Rita Faye Brown and her husband Rodger Michael Brown of Havre de Grace, MD, and the late Bruce Allen Smith, and Hank Wesley Smith. She was the adored grandmother of John Michael Brown and his wife Kacey, and Courtney Rene Schwartz and her husband Peter, and great-grandmother of Savannah Mae Schwartz, Emma Joelle Schwartz, and Kennedy Faye Schwartz. She was the dear sister of Wanda McGhee and Robert “Peanut” Hurley, and the late James Hurley and Lina Smith.
Joel loved being with her many friends and family. She adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was kind, compassionate and a true friend.
