Obituary for Chester Edgar Farmer

Chester Edgar Farmer, of Aberdeen, MD, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2017. He was 100 years old.
Mr. Farmer was born in Hemlock, Ashe County, North Carolina, being the youngest of ten children to David and Laura Farmer. He was the devoted husband of 76 years to the late Bessie Mae Farmer, loving father of JoAnn and W.D. Blackmon, II, of Milton, FL, Nina and Thomas Byno of Colleyville, TX, Larry and Helen Farmer of Aberdeen, MD, David and Linda Farmer of Elkton, MD, and the late Janet Farmer. He was the adored grandfather of Karen Brumbaugh, Kevin and Vicky Brumbaugh, Kimberly Brumbaugh, Danielle and Kenneth Young, Jason and Christine Farmer, Cynthia and David Powell, Leslie Cheyney and her husband Harry, Ashley MacKenzie and her husband Allan, Douglas Farmer and his wife Kristin, and Lisa Farmer. He was also survived by 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his nine siblings.
Mr. Farmer served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He retired from the Aberdeen Proving Ground in 1980. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting and fishing in his younger years, refinishing furniture, attending local auctions and gardening.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017, from 12 PM until 1:00 PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington St., Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM. Pastor Ron Smith will officiate. Interment will be held at Angel Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kevin Brumbaugh, Jason Farmer, Douglas Farmer, David Powell, Kenneth Young, and Allan MacKenzie.
