Obituary for Donald William Lay

Donald William  Lay
Donald William Lay, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on January 30, 2018. He was 89.
Mr. Lay was born in Perryville, MD, to Leroy Christian Lay and Helen Hartenstine Lay. He was the devoted husband of 64 years to the Late Wanda “Ms. Petey” Lay, loving father of Keith Creswell Lay and his Partner Daniel of Havre de Grace, MD, and Janet Leslie Cullum and her husband Joseph of Havre de Grace, MD. He was the adored grandfather of Joey Cullum, Jr., and his wife Cassandra, and great-grandfather of JoAnna Dahl, Joshua Dahl, and Liam Cullum. Mr. Lay was the brother of Robert Lay of Perryville, MD, and the late Decoy Lay, Jack Lay, Charles Lay, Peggy Smith, and Dorothy Bridgeforth.
Mr. Lay was a C&P Telephone Pioneer. He worked until retirement for C&P, Bell Atlantic, AT&T, and Verizon. After retirement, he delivered flowers for Amanda’s Florist. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Lay was a member of the Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, Young at Heart, Havre de Grace Elks Lodge, American Legion Post 47, and the VFW. He enjoyed watching tv and sports and walking at the park in Havre de Grace.
A viewing will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 S. Washington St., Havre de Grace, MD, Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at 11:00 AM, at Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, 101 S. Union Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD.
Contributions may be made in his memory to Havre de Grace United Methodist Church.
