Dorothy A. Crooks

Dorothy A. Crooks, age 90, a 62 year resident of Havre de Grace and for the past three years of Sunrise Assisted Living in Severna Park, MD, died February 9, at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, MD.

She was born March 23, 1920 in Kaw City, Oklahoma to the late Charles and Abigail Yager and graduated from Kaw City High School. She was predeceased by her spouse of 50 years Jack R. Crooks. Dorothy and Jack were married February 14, 1946. They made their home in Burns’ Apartments and were original and long-time residents of the Baybrook Community in Havre de Grace.

Dorothy was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority; she and Jack were members of the Susquehanna Swingers Square Dance Group. She was employed as a secretary by Eastern Shore Finance Company in Havre de Grace and then by Hinder Motors Lincoln Mercury Dealership in Aberdeen for 18 years.

She is survived by her sister-in-laws Emilie Crooks and Shirley Kohn, brother-in-law Theodore Kohn; nieces and nephews Jane and Jim Darroch, Sandra and Jim Stanton, Jim and Eileen Kohn, Mary Jane Boyles, Ethel Mae Harris; great nephews and nieces Steve and Kellie Darroch, Tim and Stephanie Darroch, David and Mary Ann Stanton, Christine and Bill Owens, Brian and Deidre Kohn and Aftan Kohn. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at 1:00 PM at Harford Memorial Gardens, 3839 Aldino Road, Aberdeen, Maryland 21001. Pastor Ed Heydt will officiate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the charity of your choice.
