Colonel Edward B. Cummins

   

 

On April 4th, 2009, Colonel Edward B. Cummins, of Aberdeen, Maryland, passed away in the 90th year of his life.

 

He was born in Harrisburg, Illinois, on July 30th, 1919, to the late Dr. Edward W. Cummins and Effa T. Cummins.

 

The devoted husband of the late Anna Jane Cummins, he was the loving father of Edward T. Cummins and wife Amy of Annapolis, MD, and Mark A. Cummins and wife Deborah of Darlington, MD. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lauren N. Cummins, Andrew T. Cummins of Annapolis, MD and his long time friend, caregiver, and confidante Judy Harris.  He was the dear brother of the late Louise C. Drum and the late Frances C. Businaro.

 

After high school, Col. Cummins attended St. Louis University before he joined the United States Army and served in World War II and the Korean Conflict.  As an Army Ordnance Officer, his stations included various posts throughout the world. He continued to support the Aberdeen Proving Ground by serving at the Material Testing Directorate from 1954-1978.  During this time, he was the Chief of Test Scheduling Analysis for TECOM.

 

Col. Cummins enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a train enthusiast who liked railroad history and the building and collecting of model trains. He enjoyed woodworking. An avid historian, especially of war history, Col. Cummins conducted historical tours throughout the Aberdeen Proving Ground installation.  He also loved cars, dogs, and music.

 

A viewing will be held on Monday, April 13, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, Maryland 21078. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 11:00 AM at Grace United Methodist Church, 110 West Bel Air Avenue, Aberdeen, Maryland, 21001. Dr. Paul Grant and Dr. Robert T. Clipp will officiate. Interment to be held at Bel Air Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Edward Cummins, Mark Cummins, Andrew Cummins, Larry Harris Sr., Tevis Hoke and Randy Rudy.  Honorary Pallbearers include Vernon Johnson and George Baker.
