George Stevens Barrett

George Stevens Barrett,92, passed away quietly at home in Brunswick, Md. on Tuesday, February 15, 2011. Born Sept. 21, 1918 in Northfield, N.J., he was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Weeks Barrett and his second wife, Mamie Houston Barrett and one grandson, Martin Egan. He is survived by 2 daughters, Barbara Lee Egan and her husband Michael, of N. Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and Judith Nelson and her husband Larry, of Brunswick, Md. and 2 step-sons, as well as, in-law Genevieve Nelson, 9 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and special friend, MaryJane Hackley. After moving to Md. in 1941, George worked as an Experimental Automotive Equipment Mechanic at Aberdeen Proving Grounds for 35 years, until retirement, serving in the Army during WWII in Italy. He was a Life member of the Aberdeen Fire Dept for 50 years and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Havre de Grace until moving to Brunswick to live with his daughter. Services will be held at the Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 S. Washington St., Havre de Grace, Md. The family will receive visitors from 6-8:00PM on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011 and Monday, February 21, from 10- 11:00 AM. The funeral service will be held on Mon., Feb.21 at 11:00. Pastor Ron Smith of the FBC, Havre de Grace, Md. will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 120 South Stokes Street, Havre de Grace, MD, or the Aberdeen Fire Dept., 21 North Rogers Street, Aberdeen, MD 21001.
