Center.
Mr. Hargis was born in Havre de Grace to the late Joseph P. Hargis, Sr. and Mary Elma (Andrew) Hargis. He was the devoted husband of 65 years to Carolyn A. Hargis.

Academy and graduated from Havre de Grace
High School, class of 1943, the first class to graduate wearing caps and gowns.
A veteran of World War II, he entered the army on July 3, 1943 and participated in the invasion of Europe, landing on Omaha Beach, France on June 9, 1944. He saw action in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. His awards and decoration include the following: The Good Conduct Medal, E.T.O Service Medal with 5 battle stars for Normandy, Northern France, Ardens-Alsace, Rhineland and Central Germany, Victory Medal Army of Occupation Medal, Germany Clasp Foreign Decorations, O R Awards, Medaille Du Jubilee, Liberation of Normandy by Rene` Garrec- President of Greater Council of Normandy and the Diplome by Ministre De La D’efense for Liberation of Normandy and France 2002.
In 1950 he was recalled to active duty and served in Germany until 1952.
Mr. Hargis was employed at APG as a Machinist Model Maker until his retirement in 1974.
J. Perry and Carolyn enjoyed traveling and made numerous trips to Europe visiting some countries several time. They also traveled to Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Canada and India.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #47, VFW Post #8126, Susquehanna Lodge #130, AF & AM, Har-Ce

J. Perry is survived by his wife Carolyn, a niece Sharon Hunt of Oregon, one great niece and two great nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister, Mary Jane Kendall and by his adored felines, “Willie”, “Joe-Joe” and “Oliber”
A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 11 A.M. at Angel Hill Cemetery, Havre de Grace, Maryland.
Officiating Graveside Services is Pastor Norman Obenshain.
In Lieu of flowers family will be accepting donations to the Humane Society of Harford County, 2208 Connolly Road, Fallston, MD or Seasons Hospice, 133 N. Bridge St., #C, Elkton, MD and Citizens Care Center, 415 Market Street, Havre de Grace, MD. Friends and Family may also make a contribution to a charity of their choice.
