Linden William Boyer

Linden William Boyer passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter, Linda Wisham, on the night of 28 November 2009. He was 89.

Mr. Boyer was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Harry Jacob and Annetta Heisermann Boyer. Linden was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville, Pennsylvania.

He was the devoted husband to Anita Lavinia Gillbee Boyer, who passed away on 7 August of this same year. They were married for 77 years and lived for 72 of those years in Prospect Park, Pennsylvania, in the same house where Linden Boyer grew to manhood.

Mr. Boyer graduated from Prospect Park High School in 1937. He married Anita in 1942. He began his career as a metallurgical and materials engineer, first with the G. O. Carlson Specialty Steel Company of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, and then with the Westinghouse Electric Company of Lester, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Boyer served in the United States Army from 11 September 1944 until 19 March 1946. He was an infantryman and radio operator with the 407th Battalion, 102nd Infantry Division. From 2 March 1945 to 5 May 1945, Linden was in almost continuous combat action, beginning at the Belgian-German border, and ending at the Elbe River in Germany when hostilities ceased. Nominated by his company commander for a Bronze Star, Pvt. Boyer was awarded a Certificate of Commendation for his bravery under fire.

He was a member of the Prospect Park Volunteer Fire Department for many years until he, as he put it, “…could no longer run fast enough to catch the engine before it left the fire house.”

Linden and Anita Boyer were long-time members of the Barnstormers theatrical club in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. Their enthusiasm for square dancing was of a similar duration. In later years, they joined the Senior Club at Prospect Park.

In addition to his son, Edward Manuel, of Narrowsburg, New York, and his daughter, Linda Lisbeth Wisham and her husband William of Port Deposit, Maryland, Mr. Boyer is survived by his grandchildren: Christopher Wisham and his wife Elizabeth, Keith Wisham and his wife Linda, Jennifer Horan and her husband James, Roberta Wisham, Kathleen Cole and her husband John.
