Obituary for Betty Jo Phillips (Ham)

Betty Jo Phillips, 83, of Aberdeen, Maryland went to meet her Lord and Savior on Sep 18. She was born in Lansing, NC to Farlie Fred Ham Sr. and Ora Aulsie Ham. She worked at Bata Shoe Company for 29 years before starting a second career working in the cafeteria at C. Milton Wright High School where she retired after 23 years.

She was a long-time member of Carsins Run Baptist Church where she enjoyed church activities and working with children in Sunday School, Nursery, Awana Club, and Vacation Bible School. Her hobbies were quilting, listening to gospel music and reading her Bible.

She will be remembered for her kind and loving ways, her pleasant smile, and her deep love for her family.
She is survived by her daughter Clara Leonetti and her husband Jerry of Delta, Pa, her son Harold Phillips, Jr. and his fiancé, Brenda Mentzell of Baltimore, MD., two grandchildren, Alicia Phillips of Edgewood, MD, and Charles Phillips of Louisiana, three great grandchildren, Raven, Landon, and Sabrielle. She is also survived by her brothers, Farlie Ham, Jr. of Rising Sun, MD and Barry Ham of Port Deposit, MD, her sisters, Wanda Smith of Statesville, NC, and Margie Plummer of Aberdeen, MD.

She is predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Harold Phillips Sr., her parents, two brothers, Don and Herbert Ham, and two sisters, Patsy Mullins and Brenda Cook.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2021, from 11AM until 1 PM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A. Funeral services will begin at 1 PM. Interment will be held at Baker Cemetery, Aberdeen, MD.
