Obituary for Dr. Kathy Jo Goad (Atkins)
Dr. Kathy Jo Goad, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on March 22, 2021. She was 55.
Kathy was born in Havre de Grace, MD, to Jay Leon Atkins, Sr., and Mary Lou Smithson Atkins. She was the devoted wife of Lonnie Goad, loving mother of Christopher Coyl Rice, Stephanie Renee Kemmerer, Hannah Jane Goad, Jacob Zachary Goad, Sarah Elizabeth Goad, Noah Benjamin Goad, and grandmother of Nicholas James Kemmerer. She was the sister of Leon Atkins, Jr., and Larry Atkins.
Kathy was a graduate of John Carroll High School, Harford Community College School of Nursing, she earned her BSN in Nursing and Masters in Nursing Education from the University of Phoenix, and was at the completion of her Doctoral Thesis with Capella University at the time of her passing.
Kathy was a Nurse Manager for the Maternal Child Division at St. Agnes Hospital where she was proactive in implementing new technologies to improve patient care and satisfaction in her units. She cared deeply for all of the staff she worked beside. Kathy also was an educator and worked as an online course coach for the Nursing Program at the University of Texas at Arlington.
She enjoyed crafting, sewing, quilting, and riding her spin bike as well as cooking and trying new recipes with her husband. Her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her children and grandson at their many sports and education functions.
Services will be private.
