Elma Lorell Hollars
Born April 8, 1931, to Oscar Lee and Maude Anna Stanley in Jefferson, NC, Elma Lorell Stanley moved, as a young girl, to Earlton Road in Havre de Grace, MD. There she would maintain deep family roots until her death on August 1, 2022, at the age of 91.
Wife of Ben Hollars and mother of Shirley and Wayne, Elma was a dedicated homemaker who took pride and pleasure in making her house a home. Through the decades, family history was recorded and displayed in cherished photographs displayed in every room. As one of six children, faith and family were her touchstones. Known to family as Granny and Aunt Elma, she especially enjoyed watching generations of children grow---from her own grandson, and great-grandchildren, to her extended family of nieces and nephews, and to the children of her church family. In later years, she relished her role as matriarch and source of family history and stories.
Elma was an accomplished seamstress and had a lifelong love of needlework. She used her talents for the enjoyment and benefit of family and friends and contributed to church outreach. Her legacy is one of busy hands and a generous heart.
Elma is survived by her daughter Shirley Pollitt (wife of Eric) of Havre de Grace; Christopher Pollitt (husband of Angie and father of Tyler and Jordyn) of Perryville; and her youngest sister, Mary Houser, of Chillicothe, OH. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben, and son, Wayne.
Per Elma’s wishes no services will be held at this time. Her family invites you to celebrate her by reminiscing and sharing memories of her life and times.
