Obituary for Genevieve Kehoe Snodgrass (Kehoe)

Genevieve May Kehoe Snodgrass went to her great reward on September 28, 2022, at her home in Street, Maryland. She was 99 but would say she was in her 100th year! She was born May 2, 1923, to James Henry and Ethel Davis Kehoe on East Broadway in Bel Air, Maryland. She spent her childhood with her best girlfriends Kathryn and Betty, often playing in the fountains of Liriodendron, calling themselves “RiLouGenKaBet”. She participated in all the plays at Bel Air High School with the Student Stagers until she graduated in 1939, following her brothers James Henry, Sterling Vincent, and Charles Lindberg “Lindy” Kehoe who he was so proud of and have predeceased her. She started a nursing program but left after she met William “Bill” Famous Snodgrass of Mill Green and was told dating during the week wasn’t allowed. They were wed November 21, 1943. Genevieve worked in New York City in a watch shop while Bill was in the Navy. After WWII, they moved into The Projects in Havre de Grace and started their family with Barbara Lee (Matthew Wiherle) and William Famous Jr. (Nancy Coakley), then added Michael Kehoe (Sherry Hall) and Lindsay Sue (Miles Konopka) after they moved to Spring Lake Way in Webster Village. She and Bill were so proud of their four kids. Barbie Lee won Baltimore’s Most Beautiful Baby contest and became a teacher like Bill’s mom. She loved talking about her Billy, who followed his dad to be an electrician and always returned home to visit from California and then Arkansas. Her Mike made his home in North Carolina, and his mom loved to talk about his work at church and with his girls. She loved living with Linny and Miles and the fact that she was able to live at home because of Linny’s care. Genevieve loved her neighborhood friends and her church, Webster Congregational, where she was a member for 50 years. She and Bill enjoyed golf and tennis at Swan Creek Country Club and traveling with friends to the Outer Banks. She and her best friend Gertrude Norman would make many trips together to warm locales. Bill passed in 1982 and Genevieve devoted herself to the care and keeping of her family and the citizens of Harford County. She nursed her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Famous Snodgrass, as well as her mother Ethel and her Aunt Edith Taylor until their passings. She finished nursing school, led activities for the Young at Heart organization at its beginnings, and worked at the Aberdeen and Bel Air libraries. She enjoyed many years with her bowling league in Aberdeen. She kept her grandchildren all the time, making sure to always be stocked with Tang, Country Time Lemonade, and Jolly Ranchers. Her grandchildren Heidi (Garrett Pensell), Jocelyn (Kent Greimel), and Matthew (Kate McMahon) Wiherle; the late William Bradley “Brad” (Vangie Steuer) and Jennifer Johnson Snodgrass; Renah (Michael Schweninger) and Mandi (Michael Hofmann) Snodgrass; and Phillip Curran (Katelyn Parker) and Lauren (Michael Sedler) Weber all have special memories with Mom Mom Genevieve and are so thankful to have had her be a part of the lives of her great-grandchildren, Julie, Henry, and Ella Pensell; Meghan, Morgan, and Mia Greimel; Matthew and Josephine Wiherle; Marek (Tori and their son Rory) and Wyatt Johnson; Thomas and William Mitchell; Amelia Hofmann; Ethan, Everett, and Clay Weber; and Hayden and Colton Sedler. We are grateful that the entire family was together with mom, mom mom, and GG last weekend and she saw all the generations there because of her. Genevieve’s life will be celebrated with a viewing on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, from 11 AM until 12 PM and a service at12 PM, at Webster Congregational UCC, 4100 Webster Road, Havre de Grace, MD 21078. Contributions may be made in her memory to the church. Online condolences may be made to www.zellmanfuneralhome.com.
