Obituary for George Charles Cardona

George Charles Cardona, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on February 12, 2023. He was 79 years old.

Mr. Cardona was born in Oakland, CA, to John Charles Cardona and Mary Katherine Looser Cardona. He was the devoted husband of 54 years of Rita Axtmann Cardona, loving father of Kathleen Cardona, Christopher Cardona (Alicia), Mary Rita Palisin (Jeffrey), and Michelle Cardona (Michael Stitzel), the immensely proud and beaming grandfather of Caroline and Vivian Kerr, Christopher and Amanda Cardona, Josephine and Cullen Stitzel, and Tristan and Gwendolyn Palisin. He was the brother of Joanne O’Neill (Hugh), Mary Kate Cardona (Bill Smith), and Charlie Cardona (Ida).

Mr. Cardona was raised in Nyack, NY. He worked for Chase Manhattan for more than 30 years, and finished his career, finally fully retiring from Provident Bank. He was the mayor of Upper Nyack for 14 years and very involved with the community, such as supporting local business development and the planning committee in Rockland County, NY. He was intensely supportive of his family, and appeared at every possible sporting and school event for his children and grandchildren. After retiring and moving with Rita to Maryland, he continued to be an important member of their new community and lead the Bulle Rock Civic League. He also thoroughly enjoyed and was grateful for the newfound friendships made in Bulle Rock. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Rita, whether to a family beach vacation on Long Beach Island, NJ, a drive up the east coast to visit family, or touring any number of locations throughout the world, reaching all 7 continents.
