Obituary for Hattie Lee "Pat" Chaplin (Shifflett)

Mrs. Hattie (Pat) Chaplin of Havre de Grace went to be with our Lord on Friday July 22, quietly in her sleep with her loving son, James, by her side.

Born July 9, 1936, in Green County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Cora Lee Shifflett and George Shifflett. She was preceded in death by her late husband of 54 years, James H Chaplin Sr., and her grandson Christopher Chaplin of Havre de Grace, her adopted sister Elsie Wilkes, as well as her brothers of Albert Shifflett, William Shifflett and Kenas Shifflett, all of Charlottesville, Virginia.

She leaves behind her loving children, James Henry Chaplin, Jr and his wife Cathy of Port Deposit, Linda Chaplin Rutherford of Havre de Grace, Gregory Chaplin and his wife, Ginny of Maine and Lisa Braun and husband Jeff of Forest Hill. Mrs. Chaplin was the proud grandmother of JC Chaplin, the late Christopher Chaplin, Brad Bloyer Jr., and wife Brittany, Ashlee Rutherford and husband Daniel Whalley, Laura Chaplin, Michael Chaplin, Benjamin Chaplin, Robert Chaplin, Joseph Chaplin, Samuel Chaplin, Michelle McCullough and husband Gardner and Taylor Braun. She also leaves behind loving great grandchildren Caylee, Landyn, Calvin, Scarlett, Charlotte, Marie and Lucas Michael, brother Jack Shifflett, in addition to a loving family of nephews, sister-in-law and friends in Virginia.

Mrs. Chaplin was an active Havre de Grace business owner in the 1980s. She owned and operated the Riverside Antiques store on Washington Street. It was a quaint antique store with a clientele which included the famous entertainer Phyllis Diller and others, who would frequent her store to shop or just visit with the friendly owner whenever in the area. She was an active member of the Friends of Lighthouse Committee, Chamber of Commerce, and a member of American Legion Post #128 of Aberdeen. Mrs. Chaplin, a very family-oriented mother, had a strong public career and retired with the AFLCIO union in 1998. She began her career in Hanau Germany in 1964 and continued once her late husband was stationed stateside at APG, Aberdeen, MD.

The family prefers to pay their last respects privately at Zellman Funeral Home, Wednesday, July 27, 2022, with internment immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Women’s Auxiliary of American Legion, Post# 128 of Aberdeen.
