Obituary for Helen Elizabeth Race (Mikeska)
Helen Elizabeth Race, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on December 19, 2023. She was 92 years old.
Mrs. Race was born in Waterman, PA, to John Mikeska and Catherine Magoosic Mikeska. She was the devoted wife of Richard Louis Race, Sr., loving mother of Richard Louis Race, Jr., (Debra), and Kathleen Perry (David), grandmother of Brandi Chumney (Brent Warren) and Nathan Wassmer (Dawn), great-grandmother of David Chumney and Landon Wassmer. She was the sister of Frank Mikeska (Winnie), the late John “Lefty” Mikeska (the late Irene Mikeska), and the late Dolores “Nootsie” Demyanek (the late Louis Demyanek).
Mrs. Race was a member of American Legion Post 128 Auxiliary, The Moose Lodge of Aberdeen Auxiliary, and the Golden Age Club. She enjoyed crocheting and baking cookies. Her life focus was taking care of her family. She was employed at Acme Markets in Havre de Grace for 30 years.
A viewing will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023, from 10 AM until 12 PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 S. Washington St., Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will begin at 12 PM, at the funeral home. Father Francis Ouma will officiate. Interment will be held at Harford Memorial Gardens.
