Obituary for John Charles "Jack" Gross
John “Jack” Charles Gross, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2023.
He was 89 years old.
Jack was born in Aberdeen, MD, to William A. Gross and Helen S. Shortall Gross. He was the devoted husband of the late Elizabeth J. Gross, loving father of John D. (Theresa) of Newark, DE, and Thomas of Havre de Grace, MD, and was predeceased by daughter Jane. He was the grandfather of Christina (Thomas), Catie Beth (Robert), Courtney and the late John Patrick, great-grandfather of Kolton and Luka, and brother of Bill, (Mary Ann), Paul (Helen), Margaret (Albert), Helen Marie (Larry) and the late David (Peggy), and brother-in-law Roger Thompson (Sheila).
Jack was a 1952 graduate of Aberdeen High School, where he was a four-sport varsity athlete. He later won numerous Maryland Class C State Softball Championships. Jack served in the Maryland National Guard and retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground in the Management Information Systems Office. He was a member of Havre de Grace Elks Lodge, the VFW Auxiliary, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid Ravens and Orioles Fan, enjoyed being on the water, boating, fishing, and crabbing. Jack cherished time spent traveling with his wife and friends, spoiling his grandchildren, and being at the beach.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2023, from 10AM until 12 PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 S. Washington St., Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will begin at 12 PM. Interment will be held at Harford Memorial Gardens.
