Obituary for Kenneth Roberts Schwarz

Kenneth Roberts Schwarz, of Havre de Grace, Maryland passed away on July 2, 2021. He was 80.

Mr. Schwarz was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Henry August Schwarz and Emma Elizabeth Hasselhoff Schwarz. He was the devoted husband of 37 years to Cynthia Lynn Schwarz, loving father of Marc Andrew Henry Schwarz, Daniel Grant Christian Schwarz, Sherry Lynn Lazzerson (Brian) and Stacey Ann Schwarz, and grandfather of Bryan Bell. He was the brother of Donald Christian Schwarz (Linda).

Mr. Schwarz graduated from City College in Baltimore in 1959. He worked for Gulf Oil in the I.T. Department. He then joined the US Navy submarine service, serving aboard the USS Grampus (SS-523). After his time in the Navy, he returned to work for Gulf Oil in Philadelphia. In the early 1970’s, he and his brother, Donald took over his family’s motor coach and tour company, Monumental Motor Tours. After retiring from the family business, he worked for AAA for more than 20 years before retiring in 2019.

Mr. Schwarz was an avid hockey fan and held season tickets for the Philadelphia Flyers since 1968. He collected Hallmark ornaments and Department 56 collectibles and started a collector’s club. He excelled at writing and trivia, and wrote the history trivia column "Ken's Korner" for Department 56 Quarterly.

A viewing will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021, from 6-8 PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 S. Washington St., Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at 11 AM, at the funeral home, with a burial service following at Harford Memorial Gardens.
