Obituary for Kenneth August Widel

Kenneth A. Widel passed away at home on September 7th, 2021. Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Andrew and Anna (Kraus) Widel, Ken Widel was the devoted husband of Marianna Widel for 37 years, adoring father of Natalie Widel, Melissa Widel and Kenneth A. Widel, Jr., and loving brother of Marilyn Janusewski and Kathy Hyland. Upon graduating high school, Ken served for more than 26 years in the United States Air Force. His service took him to dozens of countries and U.S. States and territories, fulfilling a love of travel and adventure. He spent the longest stretches of service in Germany, where he met his wife Marianna. He also earned a bachelor's degree in business management from Park University while serving in active duty. After his faithful service to his country, he continued in the Civil Service for the U.S. Army, first in Germany, and most recently as a Budget Analyst at Aberdeen Proving Ground. Upon retirement, he had served the U.S. Government for over 45 years in various roles. Ken was an avid bowler, loved cars (and could name the make, model, and year of classic American cars on sight) and motorcycles, listening to the music of his youth, spending time on the water, studying history, and watching movies. He was a lifelong dog lover, and was grudgingly won over by his cats later in life. He enjoyed being social and had a sharp, dry sense of humor. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Patrick Catholic Church. Friends and family may make a contribution in his memory to Wounded Warrior Project, https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/
