Obituary for Kevin Alexander Michel

Kevin Alexander Michel, born November 16, 1953, New York, NY, Passed away at home in Havre de Grace, MD March 3, 2023. He was 69 years old.

Parents (deceased) Alexander and Margaret Michel.
Survived by:
● Wife, Janet C. Michel (maiden name Wezel) of Havre de Grace, MD
● Daughter, Carolyn Michel of Philadelphia, PA
● Brothers: Brian Michel of Cherry Hill, NJ and Denis Michel of Lawrenceville, NJ
● Multiple other relatives, friends, and former colleagues

Kevin grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and attended Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx, where he met his wife Janet while in the school band together. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together.

Kevin pursued multiple degrees throughout his lifetime, including a B.S. and M.B.A. from Pace University in NY, and became a C.P.A., working for private firms in New Rochelle, NY and Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc in NYC and Princeton, NJ. He was also an adjunct professor in finance and accounting at Pace University, Mercy College, and St. Thomas Aquinas College.
In 1998 Kevin moved to Maryland to become the Academic Director of Accounting at UMUC in Adelphi. During this time, he continued to further his education by obtaining an Ed.D. from Nova Southeastern University.

Kevin strongly believed in community service and from the late 1980’s to late 1990’s he served as Trustee of the New Rochelle Public Library, and Trustee, Treasurer, and President of the Plainsboro Free Public Library. More recently he volunteered at the Havre de Grace branch of the Harford Public Library.
After being diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s, Kevin served on the Johns Hopkins Memory Center Patient-Family Advisory Council along with his wife Janet, and they were heavily involved with various support groups through their church and the Alzheimer’s Association.

Kevin was a loving father who could always be counted on for support and encouragement. Family and friends often looked to Kevin for sound financial and investment advice. He loved animals and had pets including dogs, cats, and birds. Although Kevin was mostly known to be softspoken, he had a great sense of humor and a knee-slapping laugh. He explored and researched different interests and had even taken flying lessons. He would often go out shopping and bring back surprise gadgets that he was intrigued by, which would usually be more useful in the wilderness rather than the suburbs.

Kevin was lovingly cared for at home by family members and devoted caregivers. Please consider a donation in Kevin’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Maryland, 502 Washington Ave., Suite 300, Towson, MD 21204; or online at www.alz.org/maryland.
