Obituary for Kyung Ock Park

Kyung Ock Park, of Bel Air, MD passed away on January 27, 2022.

She was 90 years old.

Mrs. Park was born in Shinpo, Hamkyungnamdo, North Korea, lived in Seoul, South Korea, and immigrated to the United States in 1970. She was the youngest daughter of Kum Soon Park, wife of Eullho Park, mother of Tae Young (Mee Sook Park), Tae Soo Park (Han Chu Park), Yoon Hee Kang (Martin Kang), and Dong Hee Park (Hi Sup Sim). Mrs Park was the grandmother of Gina Park-Truvan (Tony Truvan), Edwin Park, Moon Hee Park, Kyoung Hee Park-Kim (Peter Kim), Ashley Kang, Julie Kang (Andrew Davis), Christopher Kang, Austin Sim (Allison Lure), and Danielle Sim. She is the great grandmother of Edward Kim, Emily Kim, and Hailey Truvan.

She was predeceased by her siblings Naomi Antolin and Suk Woong Park.

Mrs Park graduated from Woman's Teacher's College in Seoul (now Sejong University) and majored in Home Economics. She taught at an all-girls' high school before getting married. She immigrated to the US for a better life and education for her 4 children and after immigrating, held various jobs to support her family until she retired in 1995.

She and her husband were avid mountain hikers and loved to take their family out to the mountains during their free time. She was also extremely into fashion, designing and making her own fabulous outfits not only for herself but also her children. Later in her life, her favorite hobbies were traveling and gardening. She was proud of all kinds of flowers in her garden but also the Asian pears and persimmons that she grew in her own backyard! Among many of her favorite flowers and plants, she especially loved Crocus and Lily of the Valley because these flowers quietly poked through the sometimes, snow-covered frozen ground to bring the first sign of Spring.

She loved being with her family, cooking special dishes and treats from the endless recipe clippings she had saved throughout her life. One of her biggest and happiest moments was making a huge mound of red bean rice cake (si-roo dduck) for Thanksgiving every year for her children and grandchildren.
