Obituary for Lois Hayenga Lawson (Hayenga)

Lois Hayenga Lawson, of Madison, NJ, passed away on December 1, 2022. She was 99.

Mrs. Lawson was born in Lamoure, North Dakota, to Lubertus and Bertha Hayenga. She was the devoted wife of the late John Lawson. She was predeceased by her first son Robert (Anne) and survived by William Lawson (Faith), Thomas Lawson, and Peter Lawson (Cathy). She was the grandmother of Madeleine, Claire, David, Kate, Alex, Brendan, John, Andrew, Summer and Jen, great-grandmother of Lucy, Audrey, Felicity, and Luke.

Mrs. Lawson grew up in Irvington, NJ. Her father was a watchmaker and jeweler, and her mother was a teacher of the deaf. She went to the College of Wooster in Ohio, graduating in 1945 with degrees in chemistry and math. Mrs. Lawson had a 10-year career in pharmaceutical research before raising 4 boys in Madison, NJ. She was employed by the Madison YMCA for 30 years, working as a lifeguard and receptionist. She was a member of Madison Methodist Church in Madison, NJ, for 60 years and sang in the choir. Her hobbies included piano, sailing, fencing, reading, gardening, and crossword puzzles.
