Obituary for Mary Preston Lay
Mary Preston Lay, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on March 18, 2018. She was 93.
Mrs. Lay was born in Mentor, Ohio, to Robert Preston and Rose Zack Preston. She was the devoted wife of the late Kenneth Lay, loving mother of Steven R. Lay and his wife Louise B. Lay of Havre de Grace, MD, Ronald E. Lay and his wife Kathryn M Lay, of Annville, PA, and Susan E. Vette and her husband James A. Vette of Mount Airy, MD. Mrs. Lay was the grandmother of Emily E. Lay, Amy K. Santalucia, Christine R. Lay, James K. Vette, Jonathan P. Vette, and Caroline M. Vette, and sister of Elizabeth J. Guilliot, Eleanor A. Bird, Carol P. Barham, and Robert V. Preston. Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. Lay was predeceased by her two infant sons, Mark A. Lay and David A. Lay.
Mrs. Lay was a Teacher’s Aid at Havre de Grace Elementary School. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and volunteered for several years at Citizens Nursing Home and Grace Place.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2018, from 2-4 and 6-8, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 S. Washington St., Havre de Grace, MD. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018, at 9:30 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 615 Congress Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD. Father Dale Picarella will officiate. Interment will be held at Harford Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be James A. Vette, James K. Vette, Jonathan P. Vette, Stephen M. Vozzella, Martin Santalucia, and David Bird.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 615 Congress Ave, Havre de Grace, MD 21078. Online condolences may be made at www.zellmanfuneralhome.com.
