Obituary for Nannette DeLuca Martin (Vancherie)

Nannette DeLuca Martin, of Davenport, FL passed away on March 3, 2023, with her family by her side. She was 77.

Nannette was born on February 4, 1946, in Havre de Grace, MD, to the late James Carroll Vancherie, Jr. and Gussie Irene Goodman Vancherie. She was the devoted wife of 34 years to Samuel E. Martin of Davenport, FL, and the proud and loving mother of Denise Marie DeLuca (Kevin Greimel) and Anthony Robert DeLuca (Marylin DeLuca). She was the adoring grandmother of Dean Anthony Maida and Gianna Nicole DeLuca. She was also the caring stepmother to Scott Martin (Alicia Martin) and Samantha Martin (Mike Perry) and step grandmother to Isaac Pratt, Leila Perry, Lilly Martin and Ben Martin. She is also survived by her brothers James Carroll Vancherie, III and Jesse Calvin Vancherie and sister Constance Ann Vancherie all of Havre de Grace, MD.

Nannette moved from Havre de Grace, MD to Davenport, FL to follow her children Denise and Anthony as they pursued their dreams with the Walt Disney Company. She soon realized a desire to work there and became a Costuming Coordinator at Walt Disney World. She enjoyed dressing the performers for the biggest shows at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Shows such as Fantasmic! and Lights, Motors, Action! Nannette received the highest accolades that Cast Members can receive from peers and management alike and was also awarded the coveted “Partners in Excellence” Award. After working 17 years at Disney, she retired on her 70th birthday with a big sendoff hosted by Mickey Mouse himself!

Nannette’s retirement years were full of wonderful memories which included spending time with her grandchildren Dean and Gianna in the pool at her Florida home, taking many cruises with her husband Sam as well as shopping and gathering for special occasions. Her favorite colors were blue and lavender and she loved “sparkly” things. As she would say, “the more it sparkles, the better”.

Nannette was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. Her loving legacy will always shine through her children and her grandchildren’s lives.
