Obituary for Rebecca Jane Tompkins (Lockwood)

Rebecca J. Tompkins, “Becky” to family and friends, of Aberdeen, MD passed away surrounded by the love of her family on January 11, 2019 at the Hart Heritage Estates Assisted Living Community, Street, MD. She was 80 years old. She was the beloved wife of the late Lester C. Tompkins, whom she met while taking dancing lessons at a YMCA in Akron, OH.

Mrs. Tompkins was born in East Liberty, OH to the late Herbert A. and Julia O. (Price) Lockwood. She was the loving mother of Terry L. Tompkins and his wife Jenifer, Tina L. Mike and her husband Charlie. She was the devoted grandmother of Austyn T. Ripken, Mariah E. Ripken (fiancée Brett Curll), Carla M. Mike and her husband Andrew Derr. She is also survived by her grandson-in-law Eric J. Lucas. She was the adoring great-grandmother of Kaedan J. Lucas. Mrs. Tompkins is survived by two of her seven siblings: Mary E. Lockwood and Harold “Butch” Lockwood. Becky is now reunited with her beloved dachshund, Lucy.
Until her retirement, Mrs. Tompkins enjoyed a long career, working for the Pennsylvania, Penn Central and Conrail railroads. She was a member of Swan Creek Country Club, where she was an avid golfer. Becky enjoyed bowling in several leagues at Harford Lanes. She was a member of the Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, a member of the Red Hats and also a member of the Transportation Communications Union/IAM. In her post-retirement years, Becky cheered on her granddaughters’ softball games, enjoyed family dinners and loved to travel the country and world with friends. Becky was a known to have a vibrant and loving, fiercely independent personality.

A funeral will be held on Friday, January 18, 2019, beginning at 10 AM, at the Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, 101 S. Union Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD.

Interment will be at the Angel Hill Cemetery.

Officiating will be Pastor Norman Obenshain.
