Obituary for Rev. Edward Emmanuel Heydt

Rev. Edward Emanuel Heydt, passed away on December 4, 2015, at the age of 75. He was born in Reading, PA to Edward Samuel Heydt and Bernetha Mae Ditzler Heydt and was the devoted husband to Deborah Sue Heydt. Pastor Ed was the loving father of Troy Heydt, Terra Lorshbaugh, Tricia Potter and her husband Doug, Noel Ebersole and his wife Michelle, Gretchen Ebersole, Megan Cobb and her husband John and Nathan Ebersole. He was the grandfather of Christopher Lorshbaugh, Colton Beckman, Madison Ebersole, Roman, Elias, and Camryn Cobb and great-grandfather to Christian Lorshbaugh. He preceeds in death, his brother Donald Heydt and his wife Eileen, his sister Maxine Burky, his former wife Diane Heydt and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pastor Ed graduated from Cascade College then went on to Asbury Seminary. He pastored at Mt. Savage U.M.C., Williamsport U.M.C., Smithsburg U.M.C., Friendship/Carter’s U.M.C., and Havre de Grace United Methodist Church. He remained active at Havre de Grace United Methodist Church after his retirement where he served on the Mission Team, the choir, the United Methodist Men, the Healing Ministry, and the Friends of Estonia. Pastor Ed served on the Ethics Commission for the City of Havre de Grace and also the Ethics Committee of the United Methodist Conference. He also served on the Citizen’s Care Center Board of Directors, the North Eastern Maryland Kennel Club Board of Directors, was a member of the Kiwanis Club and a huge supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. He was proud to be inducted into the Mt. Savage Hall of Honor for his exemplary service in the community. He also served for many years as Chaplain at Harford Memorial Hospital. Pastor Ed enjoyed decoy carving as a student of Noble Mentzer, raising Havanese and Biewer Terriers, and keeping in touch with loved ones on Facebook. He was an enormous part of his community and was loved and trusted by the people in his town.
A service will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at 3:00 PM, at Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, 101 S. Union Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD. Pastor Norman Obenshain will officiate assisted by other guests.
