Obituary for Richard Wills Delp
Richard Wills Delp, 90, of Fork, MD passed away on February 15, 2021.
Mr. Delp was born on the Cool Spring Farm in Churchville, MD to Richard Wills Delp Sr. and Mary Kathleen Greer Delp. He was the loving husband of Katherine Gallagher Delp and the husband of the late Serena Jane Mende Delp. He was the loving father of Edward “Brian” Delp (Lisa), Mary Jane Ashe (Wayne), William “Billy” Delp (Sherri), Melanie Goss (Gregory), and the late Richard “Gary” Delp (late Kathy). Mr. Delp was the grandfather of Daniel, Josh, Amanda, Aaron, Kristina, Nick, Meghan, Leah, Philip and Aidan, and great-grandfather of Charlotte, Archer, and Finley. He was the brother of the late Grover “Bud” Delp and Raymond “Arch” Archer.
Mr. Delp was a 1947 graduate of Bel Air High School. He then attended Mercersburg Academy and University of Maryland College.
He worked for his family business, Greer Transportation, when he was younger and then trained thoroughbred racehorses for over 30 years. He loved the race game and was well respected by everyone connected with racing and recognized by the number of Major races he won. His dedication and talent will be missed and may never come this way again. He enjoyed his yearly trips to Cancun and to Saratoga Springs.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021, from 11:00 Am until 12:00 PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 S. Washington St., Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will begin at noon at the funeral home. Funeral services will be livestreamed via Facebook @Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., or on Mr. Delp’s obituary page on the funeral home website below. Pastor Dennis Kozlowski will officiate. Interment will be held at Bel Air Memorial Gardens.
