Obituary for Robert Lee "Bob" Maguire

Robert Lee “Bob” Maguire, 88 passed away as a resident of Cedar Haven Nursing Home in Lebanon Pennsylvania on April 9, 2024

Bob was born on July 29, 1935, the son of Jack & Bernadine (Sharer) Maguire.

Robert, known as Bob to his friends, served in the Marine Reserves. In his professional life Bob worked for Ford Motor Company, owned a sawmill in Port Matilda Pennsylvania, and in addition, he worked as a logger along with working with His father-in-law in Logging with Pelton & Maguire Logging (P & M Logging). He also worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for Al Hamilton Contractor and Waste Management Company.

Bob found joy outside of his professional life by working on “honey-do” projects for Ruth, which produced many hand crafted wood projects from hand-crafted furniture, Birdhouses etc., many of his projects were given as gifts to family & friends.

He enjoyed listening to Hank Williams (he only allowed two types of music in his house: country and western) and his favorite hymns and reading his Bible along with Christian publications. Jesus changed the direction of Bob’s life when he was saved at the Evangelical Free Church of Lanse, Pennsylvania. The words of his favorite hymn, The Old Rugged Cross, became the anthem of his testimony of faith. Cherishing his relationship with Christ and helping with the Church Bus Ministry in His younger years gave him many opportunities to minister to young and old. Bob was cherished by many who met him through the Bus ministry at Lanse Evangelical Free Church. Sharing his faith was an important aspect of His life. Bob loved spending time with family and was a highlight and a reason to give him pride and love for each member of his family. Bob will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

“I will cling to the old rugged cross, and exchange it one day for a crown”.

In the fall you could always expect to see Bob getting ready to go hunting deer. One of his greatest memories during these years was a trip that he and his youngest son Ben took to Colorado to hunt. There were always hunting clothes and his prized rifles handy during Hunting season. He shared many “hunting stories” with anyone interested in listening. “Buck Fever” was a real ailment that Bob came down with during hunting season.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth (Pelton) Maguire; his sister, Barbara (Jerry) Givler; his children: Douglas S. Maguire (Dianne), Billee J. Smith, Benjamin J. Maguire (Eileen); and 17 cherished grandchildren (or, “yahoos”, as Bob would say): Evan Maguire, Justin Winters, Justin Smith (Michelle), Nathan Smith, Sheena Stoner (Les), Thayne Maguire (Erin), Tarah Cave (Justin), Tessa Sutyak (Jerry), Darby Maguire (Jessica), Sean Maguire, Tyrone Maguire (Alaina), Alaina Charalambidis (Peter), Teague Maguire (Mary), Keegan Maguire (Rachel), Liam Maguire (Eve), Ande Sands (James), and Maggie Baker (Isaiah). “Pap” will be remembered by his thirty-six adored great-grandchildren: Lily, Henry; Landon, Elise, Amelia; Hudson, Silas, Callum, Esme, Merritt, Ansel, Clementine; Lincoln, Sullivan, Molly; Lydia; Kellan, Donovan, Milo, Leah; Quinn, Fergus, Einin, Rowan, Cian; Kate, Natalie, Konstantinos; Avery, Étienne; Hattie; Douglas, Howard, Edna; Daisy, Ira.
