Obituary for Vada Emma Shepherd (Legg)

Vada E. Shepherd of Joppa, MD, passed away at the beautiful age of 100 years on August 20, 2021, at the Citizens Care Center. She was the loving wife of the late Frank Shepherd.
Born in Lizemore, WV to the late Jarette B. and Ida Mae (Morton) Legg. She was the beloved mother of Frank D. Shepherd and his wife Barbara and the grandmother of Kelly Shepherd; devoted sister of Woodrow, Claude and Robert Legg, Lecta Price, Eva Allen, Marjorie Shaffer, Vera Grant, and Molly Legg. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews whom she adored.
Mrs. Vada worked during WWll for a defense contractor in Newark Delaware. After moving to Harford County in the 60’s she was employed by the Bata Shoe Company in Belcamp, MD for 10 years. She was a founding member of the Edgewood Alliance Church, which is now known as Christian Missionary Alliance Church. Vada loved gardening and shopping. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
In April 2021 Vada celebrated her 100th birthday. That milestone was recognized with a proclamation from Barry Glassman, Harford County Executive, and a proclamation from the County Council of Harford County, signed by all seven council members. She also received a certificate of appreciation from the Maryland Centenarian Committee and a letter of recognition from the United States Office of Personnel Management. Vada was thrilled to receive well over 100 birthday cards from family and friends to help her celebrate this momentous occasion.
Services will be held at a later date in Oak Hill, WV.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company or the Humane Society of Harford County.
