Obituary for Vonelle Scott Browning (Scott)

Print
Vonelle Scott Browning of Havre de Grace passed away on Aug. 24, 2018 at home surrounded by her family. She was 93.

She was a devoted, loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed. Born in South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Furman and Arilla Scott. She moved to Maryland to work for the U.S. Army at Edgewood Arsenal, now Aberdeen Proving Ground, during World War II. Later, she served in several positions, including nutritional services supervisor, for more than 40 years at University of Maryland Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace, Maryland.

She was the dear mother of Linda B. Worthington, Doris B. Walker, and Katherine B. DeWeese of Havre de Grace and Robert S. Browning, Jr., of Virginia. She was the grandmother of Kelly V. Browning, Jason C. Browning (Angela), Adam R. (Alex) DeWeese and Scott M. DeWeese and great-grandmother of Breanna P. Browning. She is also survived by siblings Gene H. Scott, L. Jonelle Scott, V. Carol Scott and Patricia D. Weatherford, of S.C., Steve B. Scott, of Georgia, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister and three brothers.

She loved being with her family, as well as tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, with which she was busily engaged until recently. She enjoyed beach vacations in Pawley's Island, S.C., paired with annual family reunions. Among her favorite other activities were reading and following political discussions on C-Span and Maryland Public Television.

Services were private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Maryland Food Bank’s School Pantry program at Maryland Food Bank, 2200 Halethorpe Farms Road, Baltimore, MD 21227, or at https://donate.mdfoodbank.org/tribute.
