Obituary for William Clifton Myers

William Clifton Myers of Aberdeen, MD, passed away peacefully at his home during the morning of April 24, 2022, just one month shy of his 81st birthday.

‘Billy’ was born in Havre de Grace, MD, to William Perry Myers and Ruth Tollinger Myers. He was the devoted husband of the late Betty Lee Myers, whom he married on May 9, 1970. He was the loving father of Ross Myers (Connie Steck), Kimberly Myers Rotondo (Brian), and Christopher Myers and was a grandfather of Rocco and Lukas Rotondo.

Mr. Myers was a 1963 graduate of Western Maryland College where he was a proud brother of the Alpha Gamma Tau fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant during the Vietnam era and then later in U.S. Army Reserves during the Baltimore Riots of 1968. He spent his entire post military career in the Civilian Personnel Office at Aberdeen Proving Grounds where he met Betty and retired in 1997 after 33years. Bill was a volunteer for and supporter of many organizations during his lifetime including the National Wild Turkey Foundation, Duck’s Unlimited, and the American Legion, Post 47, his favorite place to enjoy his daily beer. Additionally, he was a 50+ year member of the Aberdeen Church of Christ.

In his spare time, when he had the energy, he enjoyed hunting all manner of woodland creatures, fishing, gardening, reading his war and spy novels, stamp collecting, and smoking his cigarettes. Most other times you could find him watching all manner of sports while taking a nap but not allowing you to change the channel because ‘He was watching that’. In his younger years, he ran track and held many high school records, played football as both running back and defensive end (yes, you read that correctly) and played softball. In his later years he spent lots of time watching is grandsons play both lacrosse and soccer and develop their love of sports.

Mr. Myers donated his body to science in the hopes that they could one day discover a cure for cancer or at the very least figure out how to keep mankind from having to so frequently return the beers they had just consumed.

A Service will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at 2:00 PM, at Aberdeen Church of Christ, 90 Mt. Royal Avenue, Aberdeen, MD 21001.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on what would have been his birthday, May 23rd, from 6-8pm, at the American Legion, Post 47, 501 St. John Street, Havre de Grace, MD.

In lieu flowers, contributions may be made to the American Legion, Post 47, or The Kennedy Krieger Institute Children’s Hospital International Center for Spinal Cord Injury, 801 North Broadway, Baltimore, MD 21205.
