Obituary

Alice Gloria Velasco, a gentle and sweet soul, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, at the age of 95. Born to James Bayer and Ann Jager Bayer, Alice grew up in a family rooted in faith, devotion, and quiet strength - qualities she carried throughout her long and beautiful life.

Alice was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Gilbert A. Velasco, Sr., with whom she built a life centered on love, family, and faith. She was also preceded by her daughter Mary Kostolini, her son Ronnie Velasco, and her brother Jimmy Bayer.

She is survived by her loving children: Diane Hughes, Cindy Heil, and Gilbert A. Velasco, Jr. (Gil); her cherished grandchildren: Melissa Heil, Jason Heil, Ryan Kostolini, Chris Kostolini, Heather Wise, Gilbert Velasco III, and Leacy Lada, and her adored great‑grandchildren Ashton and James. She also leaves behind her devoted brother, Denny Bayer, and a wide circle of extended family and friends who treasured her gentle presence.

A woman of deep faith, Alice was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Havre de Grace. Her devotion was quiet but unwavering, expressed through service, prayer, and the way she treated others - always with kindness, patience, and grace.

Alice lived a life rich in simple joys. She loved knitting, crochet, needlepoint, and any craft that allowed her hands to create beauty. Her flower gardens were a source of pride, and she was a voracious reader who delighted in stories of every kind. She enjoyed Hallmark movies, found comfort in the companionship of cats, and cherished every moment spent with her family. To Alice, family time was precious, and she gave her love freely, gently, and without condition.

The legacy of this quiet, gentle, giving soul who was kind to everyone, is one of sweetness, generosity, and quiet strength - a life lived with tenderness and devotion, and a heart that never stopped giving.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 927 Pulaski Highway, Havre de Grace, Maryland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 615 Congress Avenue, Havre de Grace. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Episcopal Church Cemetery on St. Mary's Church Road in Abingdon.
