Barbara Stringer Collier, of Havre de Grace, MD, will always be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to both her family and her community. Born on March 30, 1943, in Tyrone, PA, to Raymond and June Johnston Stringer, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life – tending to her garden, sharing her love of baking, her delicious fudge, and shaping young minds during her long and fulfilling career as an educator.
Barbara's legacy lives on through her daughter, Rachel Collier, with whom she shared countless cherished moments. She was a beloved and devoted wife to the late William E. Collier and a source of strength and inspiration to her extended family, including her brother Donald Stringer (late Carol). She was the aunt of Donald Stringer, Jr., (Tonya), great-niece Elizabeth, great-nephews, the late Justin; the late Raymond Stringer, great-nephew Benjamin, and great-niece Heather; the late William Stringer (the late Carrie), great-nephews Sean and Ryan; Timonthy Stringer (Debra); and Richard Stringer (Ashley), great-nephews Zackary and Xander, and great-niece Madison.
After graduating from Lock Haven College and obtaining her teaching certification from Penn State University, Barbara embarked on a remarkable journey as a Kindergarten and Fifth grade teacher at Roye-Williams Elementary School in Harford County. Over four decades, she nurtured young hearts and minds, leaving an indelible mark on generations of students and colleagues.
A dedicated member of Wesleyan United Methodist Church and the Young at Heart Club, Barbara found solace and community in faith. Her love for baking, particularly her renowned fudge and mile-high icing cakes, brought joy to all who were lucky enough to savor her creations.
As we prepare to bid farewell to Barbara, her impact on countless lives becomes even more apparent. The community mourns the loss of a treasured soul, whose absence will be deeply felt. She was known for her ability to stand up to others, and was very independent throughout her entire life. Her memory will live on through the stories shared and the lives she touched.
