Obituary

Betty A. Caudill, a lifelong resident of Havre de Grace, Maryland, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, at the age of 90. She will be deeply missed by her family and the many lives she touched throughout her long and fulfilling life.

Born in Havre de Grace to the late Virginia (DuBree) Hurst and Joseph DuBree, Betty was a woman of unwavering strength and compassion. She was the devoted wife of 61 years to the late C. Bruce Caudill and loving mother to the late Alan B. Caudill and his surviving wife Denise and survived by her son, Jeffrey B. Caudill (Sharon Tully); former daughter-in-law, Bobbi Lawrence of Port Deposit; and her beloved granddaughter and best friend, Lauren B. Caudill (William Sheckels), she was also like a mother to Scott Kaylor. Betty's furbaby, Camden, held a special place in her heart. She also leaves behind numerous cherished nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Bruce, her son Alan, her stepfather Lewis E. Hurst, her sister Elva Rollins, and her brother William (Butch) DuBree, all of Havre de Grace.

Betty's strong work ethic led her through a diverse career, from toll collector at the Hatem Bridge in the 1950s, to a meat cutter, a bus driver, and a quality control inspector – a testament to her resilience and adaptability. However, her greatest accomplishment was the love and care she lavished on her family.

Beyond her family, Betty's giving nature extended to her community. She was a dedicated member of Hopewell United Methodist Church, served nine years on the Level Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered at Grace Place, in Havre de Grace. She tirelessly crocheted many blankets for local cancer patients in the community. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds, always offering support without seeking reward. She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, bowling, dancing and the beauty of hummingbirds.

Family and friends remember Betty as one of the hardest working and strongest women they knew, a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend whose legacy of service and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Pallbearers are Jeffrey Caudill, Ryan Donovan, Evan DuBree, Will Sheckels, Dave Walker and Dan Williams. Honorary Pallbearers are John Haines, Scott Kaylor and Dewey Meyer.
