Betty Lou Shepherd, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on January 5, 2024, surrounded by family at Citizens Care Center. She was 94 years old.
Mrs. Shepherd was born in MacDonald, West Virginia, to Clinton Painter and Beulah Mae Bennett Painter. She was the wife of the late Charles Shepherd, devoted mother of Sherry Smith (Bel Air, MD), Charles Shepherd (Deltona, FL), and the late Patricia Shepherd Dailey (late Steven Dailey), loving grandmother of Jeffrey Shepherd (Melissa), Kimberly Samora, Danya Williams (Jonathan), Sherry Moore, Phillip Smith (Heather), Brian Smith (Susan), Chrstopher Smith (Ida), and Daniel Smith (Haley), and great-grandmother of Derrick Pettaway (Juliet Adan), Darrell Pettaway, Trevor Moore (Amber), Kaytlynn Mitchell, Mackenzie Mitchell, Emerson Smith, Cynthia Kleinschmidt, Christopher Kleinschmidt, Kai Kleinschmidt, Colton Smith, Eliza Smith, Alexander Smith, Savannah Smith, John Shepherd, Tori Shepherd, and great-great-grandmother of Tyson Moore and Sophia Pettaway. She was the loving sister of Jack Painter, the late Samuel Painter, the late John Painter, and the late Bobby Painter.
Mrs. Shepherd worked for many years at Bata Shoe Company but found her love for children as she worked as a preschool teacher at Kinder Care. She continued to share her love and compassion for others during her time working at Citizen's Care Center. She enjoyed baking cakes, crocheting, and babysitting. She baby-sat a multitude of children throughout her life and crocheted special blankets for most of the children she spent time with.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 10-11 AM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 S. Washington St., Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will begin at 11. Frank McFadden will officiate. Interment will be held at Bel Air Memorial Gardens.
