Bonnie Lee Kampes of Port Deposit, MD passed away on September 22, 2023, at the University of Maryland Harford Memorial Hospital. She was 78 years old. She was the beloved wife of the late John E. Kampes, Jr.
Born in Havre de Grace, MD to the late Wayne A. and Margaret L. (Taylor) Heins. She was the devoted mother of Edward C. Kampes (Linda Teuber-Kampes), Tracey L. Kampes, John E. Kampes, III (Dawn R. Kampes), Donna L. Kampes and Kelly A. Kampes, loving grandmother of Crystal Kampes, Aryn L. Kampes, Kyle Kampes, John E. Kampes, IV, Calen Kampes, Joshua Teuber, Alison Parker (A.J. Parker) and the late Edward Kampes, adoring great-grandmother of Liam G. Kampes and Cole Parker, and the sister of Linda A. Wilson (the late Lester D. Wilson) and the late Sandra P. Jones. Ms. Kampes is survived by her numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Bonnie, a proud graduate of the class of 1963 from HDG High School, attended Strayers Business College and The International School of Beauty where she began her long, successful career as a cosmetologist, and later successful owner of Bonnie K's Hair Salon. Even after retiring, she continued to work PT in her salon at Citizens Care Center until 2021. Her profound connection and widespread admiration in the community were deeply rooted in her commitment to her clients, friends, and family. Her involvement in the Harford County youth football program, where she held the position of auxiliary head, showcased her tireless dedication. Bonnie, alongside her husband John, played pivotal roles as founding members responsible for the development of the fields, concession building, and the youth football program at Stancil Field. This program blossomed into a powerhouse in the Harford and Baltimore County football league, forging lasting friendships that transcend a mere decade. From the football field to coaching children and raising families, these friendships evolved into the enduring Secret Pal's Club that still thrives 40+ years later.
Beyond her professional and community endeavors, Bonnie's passion extended to researching her family's ancestry, documenting their history back to well before the 1700's. Her research even led to the discovery of a distant cousin and new friendships. However, her greatest joy and purpose in life was family, especially her unwavering love for her children and grandchildren. She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to nurturing, supporting, and cherishing each member of her family. The warmth of her love was surpassed only by the warmth of her kitchen, where she'd conjure up dishes that brought joy to every family gathering, creating lasting memories. Her love was a constant source of strength and inspiration, reminding us all of the profound bond that ties us together. Bonnie leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever be etched in our hearts, a testament to the extraordinary mother and family matriarch she was.
