Brenda D. Guldenzopf
Brenda D. Guldenzopf of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away at her home on July 19, 2010. She was 48.
Mrs. Guldenzopf was born in Elkins, WV to Roberta (Griffiths) Dorr and the late Frederick J. Dorr. She was the devoted wife of David Guldenzopf.
Brenda D. Guldenzopf, her husband David and daughters Ceili, age 16, and Holly, age 7, fell in love with Havre de Grace and decided to make it their home in 1999. She is survived by her sister Linda E. Wegner, her husband Robert H. Wegner and niece Emma.
Brenda earned her Bachelor's degree in anthropology and archeology from the University of Connecticut at Storrs and completed her Master's degree study in museum science at the University of Toronto. Brenda's professional life has been dedicated to working with communities to preserve their history and identify and tell their story. Brenda was employed in both archeology and as a museum professional in Connecticut, New Mexico, Ontario and Scotland. She was currently the Executive Director of the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum since 2001.
On May 18, 2009, Brenda embarked on a new career when she was sworn in as a Havre de Grace City Councilperson. In this role she served on the Council Planning Committee, the Parks and Harbor Committee, the Public Safety Committee and the Budget & Finance Committee. She also served as the Council liaison to the Tourism Advisory Board, the Appearance and Preservation Committee, the Historic District Commission and the Ethics Board and as Chair of the Comprehensive Zoning Review Committee.
Brenda was truly committed to improving the lives of Havre de Grace Citizens. She was an active member in the Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, Soroptomist International of Havre de Grace, she was a member of the Havre de Grace Heritage Corridor Committee and the Museum Alliance. Brenda was tremendously dedicated to preserving the natural and cultural heritage of the City.
A memorial service will be held on August 7, 2010, at 1:00 PM at the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum, 100 Lafayette Street, Havre de Grace, MD 21078. In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make contributions in her memory to the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum.
