It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles David Boyd, a beloved father, grandfather, and dedicated military servant, who left us on July 25, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on September 17, 1947, in Webb City, Missouri, Charles cultivated a spirit of resilience and dedication that guided him throughout his life.
Charles proudly served as a Sergeant Major in the military, contributing significantly to his country with honor and commitment. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, being awarded several medals, including the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Unit Citation with Palm Device, Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Campaign Stars, and a Meritorius Service Medal. After retiring from the Army, he served for over 20c years as a Harford County Sherriff's Deputy. While taking classes in Germany, he became a Freemason. He was a member of The Havre de Grace Elks Lodge, Weedon Elliott VFW Post 8126, and Joseph L. Davis Post 47 American Legion.
His family remembers him not only for his service but also for his unwavering love and support. Charles is survived by his daughters, Shannon Dulock (Joseph), Sharon King, Kristen Ward Andrews (Steven), Carole Hawkins (Richard), and Sandra Graybeal-Groft (Lenny), as well as Nelson Ward (Dana). His legacy also lives on in the hearts of his grandchildren, including Jennifer Lloyd (Freddy), Danielle McCumber (Jimmy), Kelsie Bowen (Will), Jessica Rogers (Cameron), Erika Hawkins (Joe), Brooke Melchior, Christina Coleman (Jeffrey), Jonathan Ward (Kelsey), Blake Melchior, Blaine Ward, Alexander King, Brandon Dulock, Ashley Luke (Noah), and Haley Dulock, great-grandchildren Cameron Rogers, Jr., Aubrey Rogers, Shelby Rogers, Natalie Rogers, Katherine McCumber, Evan McCumber, Theodore Coleman, Oliver Coleman, Jackson Ward, Ryder Ward, Scarlett Ward, Everleigh Bowen, Lincoln Bowen, and Mitchell Hope, and brother Edward Boyd. Charles was preceded in death by: his wives Evelyn Ward Boyd and Carol Creech Boyd, and his father, Charles Boyd, his mother Verla Mae Richardson,and his stepfather, Rufus Richardson.
A celebration of Charles's life will take place on July 31, 2025, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A. A public viewing will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and the profound impact he had on those around him.
Charles David Boyd will be dearly missed but always remembered for his compassion, strength, and kindness. May his soul rest in peace.
