Cheryl Ann (Showalter) Evans, 65, of Havre De Grace, MD, passed away at the University of Maryland Harford Memorial Hospital on December 19, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.
Prior to living in Maryland for many years, she also lived in Vincent, OH, Belpre, OH, and Marietta, OH for several years. She was born on March 29, 1958, in Baltimore, MD, a daughter of the late John and Mary "Sue" (Rake) Showalter. Cheryl's mother unexpectedly passed away when she was just thirteen years old on Mother's Day in 1971. There were many children to be placed in new homes, so afterwards, she resided with various family members, but spent the majority of her teenage years with her first cousins Jim and Mary (Thorn) Sims of Vincent, OH, who soon became known as Mom and Dad to her. She was a 1976 graduate of Warren High School in Vincent, OH.
Cheryl began her career right out of high school by working for the Bureau of the Public Debt and Internal Revenue Service in Parkersburg, WV, for quite some time. She later worked as a factory worker for many years at Collins & Aikman and Lifoam Industries in Maryland. As simple as it sounds, Cheryl started each day with a cup of coffee and that truly gave her joy. She also enjoyed listening to music, singing, cooking, and watching and rooting for the Baltimore Orioles, Baltimore Ravens, and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
In addition to her parents and step-dad, she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters: Linda Lou, Karen Sue, Roger, Daniel, Richard, Johnny Jr., Sandra Baker, and one half-brother Brian.
She is survived by her only daughter, Angela Evans (Don Tiep) and her grand-dog, Cubby, of Belpre, OH, her partner and best friend of 14 years, Alexander Blanding of Havre De Grace, MD, two sisters, Susan Cox of Havre De Grace, MD, and Tressa Ayers (Larry) of Delta, PA, one brother, Robert Showalter (Radcliff, KY), and one half-brother Michael "Mickey" Showalter (PA), and several nieces and nephews.
Cheryl was a very caring mom, sister, and friend to so many. She will be greatly missed here on earth, but her family and friends find great comfort knowing she is in Heaven with Jesus and reuniting with her mommy.
No official funeral services will be held; however, a Celebration of Cheryl's Life is being planned for February 2024 for close friends and family.
