It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Clarence "Chuck" Wilbur Clay, who departed this life peacefully from natural causes on August 28, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on July 6, 1946, in Steelville, Missouri, Chuck was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.

Chuck served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. Chuck's commitment to service extended beyond his professional life. He was a devoted member of Principio Methodist Church and the Perryville American Legion, where he forged lasting friendships and contributed to his community. As a Master Mason, he demonstrated a commitment to the values of brotherhood and charity, reflecting a life of integrity and compassion.

A true outdoorsman at heart, Chuck found joy in hunting, fishing, and archery. He cherished his time in nature and was particularly fond of running rabbits with his beloved beagles. Chuck enjoyed music, and played many instruments, his favorite being the fiddle. He was a talented carver and was known for his many bird carvings. Chuck had a warm and engaging spirit, always ready to share stories and strike up a conversation with anyone who crossed his path.

Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Elsie Marian Clay; his sons, James "Marty" Stout, Sr., (Amy) and Shaun Wayne Clay (Dana); his grandchildren, James Martin Stout, Jr., (Kalyn) and Gunnar Wayne Clay; his great-grandchildren, Averi Stout, and James Martin Stout, III; and his sister, Shirley Pressley. Chuck was preceded in death by: his father, Wilbur "Chub" Clay, his mother, Ida Frances Downing Clay, his sister, Maxine Holbert, and brothers, Charles "T-Shirt" Clay, and Cecil Clay. His legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family and friends will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A. on September 3, 2026, at 11:00 am, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Chuck's life and the impact he made on those around him. A public viewing will take place on September 2, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, allowing loved ones to pay their respects.
