Obituary

Diane Martorana, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on August 14, 1947, in Orange, New Jersey, Diane lived a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories. After living many years in Wayne, NJ, Diane and Ben became residents of Havre de Grace, Maryland in 2012. She devoted over two decades to her work as a certified tax collector for North Caldwell, New Jersey, where her dedication was deeply appreciated. Diane was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling with her beloved husband, Ben Martorana. Their travels took them all across Europe and beyond, from Rome, Palermo, Paris and London to Casablanca, Istanbul, the pyramids of Cairo, Jerusalem, St. Petersburg and many places in between. They also often escaped winter to their favorite island, Antigua.

Together, they created countless beautiful moments at their beach home, a favorite gathering place for family. Diane took immense joy in being a grandmother, pouring her heart into her relationships with Tate and Nolan Kahalas, and Kyle and Austin Martorana. Her love for her family was evident in every aspect of her life. She also enjoyed light moments with Ben, watching her favorite sports, including the NY Yankees, and Syracuse and Duke college basketball. An active participant in her community, Diane was a passionate Mahjong player and a cherished member of the Book Club in Bulle Rock. She found joy in connection, sharing stories, and creating lasting friendships. Her vibrant spirit and warm smile will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Diane is survived by her devoted husband, Ben Martorana; her loving children, Wendy Kahalas (Jason) and Stephen Martorana (Tamara); her grandchildren, Tate, Nolan, Kyle, and Austin; as well as her brothers, George (Eileen) and Charles (Cindy) Gulla. Each of these individuals held a special place in her heart, and her legacy will be carried forward through their lives. Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Gulla and Clementina LoMarro Gulla. A visitation for Diane Martorana will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 2 to 4 PM, followed by a light repast, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A. in Havre de Grace, MD. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor her memory and share in the love she so generously gave to all. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Maryland Food Bank, (mdfoodbank.org) in Diane's memory, ensuring her spirit of generosity continues to shine on. Diane Martorana's light will forever inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace.
