Dorothy Jean Simmons


Dorothy Jean Simmons passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013. She died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family back on the Forest Hill farm where she was raised. She was 81.
Mrs. Simmons was born in Baltimore, MD to the late Walter O. and Dorothy Harkins Simons. She was the wife of the late Ronald Lee Simmons. She was the loving mother of four children: Barbara Tyler (and her husband Clark) of McLean, Virginia; Brian Simmons (and his wife Karen) of Forest Hill, MD; Richard Simmons (and his wife Cindy Stevenson) of Bel Air, MD; and Douglas Simmons (and his wife Stephanie) of Towson, MD. She was the adored grandmother of Stephanie Simmons of Boston, MA; Grant Simmons of Forest Hill, MD; Wade Simmons of Ithaca, NY; Taylor Simmons of Forest Hill, MD; Andrew Simmons of College Park, MD; Neil Simmons of Bel Air, MD; and Lauren Simmons and Devin Simmons of Towson, MD. Mrs. Simmons was the sister of Carolyn Holbrook of Bel Air, MD and the late Richard Simons.
Mrs. Simmons was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. Throughout her life she served her church and was a community volunteer, gardener, and antiques collector.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at 11:00 AM at Hopewell United Methodist Church. Pastor Corey Sharpe will officiate.
