Obituary

Ella Louise Glassman, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on July 3, 1942, in Maryland, to the late Andrew and Anna (Orr) Burns. Ella dedicated her life to her family and community, leaving behind a legacy of love and service.
Ella was a lifelong resident of Havre de Grace, MD, where she built a remarkable thirty-five year career in civil service with the Department of Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground. Her commitment to her work was mirrored by her dedication to her community, particularly as a life member of the Level Volunteer Fire Ladies Auxiliary, joining on January 13, 1966. She served in numerous leadership roles, including President from 1971 to 1973 and 1981 to 1984, and Secretary from 1985 to 1988. Her passion for service and teamwork made a lasting impact on those around her.
A devoted life member of the Rock Run United Methodist Church, Ella cherished her faith and actively contributed to her church community. She taught Sunday school, participated in various committees, and served as council president, exemplifying her deep commitment to spirituality and service.
Ella's heart was truly devoted to her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Charles Glassman of 64 years; her son, Barry Glassman and daughter-in-law Debi; her daughter, Vickie Hawkins and son-in-law Coale; her son, Mark Glassman; and her late son Richard C. Glassman, her cherished grandchildren – Clayton Glassman, Garrett Glassman, Jordan (Kristin) Glassman, Eric Hawkins, Rachel Hawkins, Taylor Glassman, Allison Glassman, and Tristan Glassman; along with her great-grandchildren, Brooks and Beau Glassman. She also leaves behind her dear brother, Robert Burns, and sister, Jean Reed.
Ella enjoyed traveling, spending sunny days by the pool, and keeping the books for the family farm. Above all, she loved to create memories with her family, which she cherished deeply.
A viewing will be held on January 8, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 927 Pulaski Highway, Havre de Grace, MD. A celebration of Ella's life will be held on January 9, 2025, and will begin at 10:00 am, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., followed by a graveside service at Rock Run Cemetery.
