In Memory of
Eric Pierre Pollitt
A lifelong resident of Havre de Grace, MD, Eric was born to James Sr. and Bertiste (Horseman) Pollitt on Dec. 19, 1945. He passed peacefully at home on October 17, 2025, after a long illness. Eric graduated from Havre de Grace High School in 1965 and Harford Junior College in 1968. From his teenage years until his retirement, he worked in the family business, Pollitt Signs, Inc., established in 1947 by his father and mother. Eric was proud to be part of this generational business that still thrives today—run by his sister-in-law Barbara Pollitt, nephew Michael Pollitt, and great-niece Morgan Pollitt.
While family loyalty, an unwavering work ethic, and pride in the quality work for which Pollitt Signs is known provided the foundation for a satisfying life, sports were what Eric enjoyed most. He followed all the Baltimore teams and had an amazing memory for sports minutiae over the years. He played baseball, basketball, and football from childhood through high school and college. Later he enjoyed fast pitch softball.
When his son, Christopher, joined Havre de Grace Little League, Eric spent many hours volunteering—working on the fields, building the umpire staff, fundraising, coaching, and managing at several levels. He was honored to be named to the Havre de Grace Little League Hall of Fame.
This early umpiring experience led to many years of officiating baseball and softball in high school and leagues for all ages. Eric umpired for several associations and took pride in his knowledge of the rules, mechanics on the field, and the spirit of calling a fair game. A common theme in Eric's sports memories through the years was the friends he made and the competition he loved. With all that said, Eric's love of sports peaked when his grandchildren, Tyler and Jordyn, played several sports from childhood through high school and beyond. During the seven years they golfed for Perryville High School, he never missed a practice, match, or tournament.
Eric is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shriley; his son Christopher and daughter-in-law Angie; grandson Tyler; his granddaughter, Jordyn Gobble, and her husband Jeffrey; and great-grandson Coast William Gobble, all of Perryville. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara Pollitt, nephew Michael and his wife Debbie Pollitt, niece Morgan Pollitt and their extended family; a cousin, Phillip Perry, and his wife Lynn; nieces Kristin Sorcic and Kori Johansen and their families; and sister-in-law Jean Pollitt-Nelson and her husband Mike. Eric was preceded in death by his father and mother, brothers James Jr. and Timothy, and nephew Matthew Pollitt.
There will be no service or visitation at this time. Whether you remember Eric driving Pollitt Signs crane trucks, playing ball, umpiring, volunteering at Little League, or as a fixture at the golf course, his family invites you to reminisce about life "back in the day" …one of his favorite pastimes.
