Francis Raymond Helldorfer, Jr.

Francis Raymond Helldorfer, Jr., of Essex, passed away on February 13, 2010. He was 88.
He was born in Baltimore, MD, to the late F. Raymond Helldorfer, Sr., and the late Catherine Kuhn Helldorfer. He was the loving husband to the late Lillian Schmeiser Helldorfer, the devoted father of Jane Martin and her husband Paul, of Havre de Grace, Linda Sloan and her husband Bob, of Essex, and Mary Ellen Martimbeau and her husband Claude, of Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was the loving grandfather of Katie Smith, Elizabeth Martin, Rob Sloan, Amy Nicely and the late Mary Ellen Sloan. He was the great- grandfather of nine.

Mr. Helldorfer served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an optician for Wise & Voelker Opticians, Katzen Eye Group, then Lens Crafters, working well into his 70's. He was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Edgemere and had served in the Kiwanis Club of Essex for several years. He was also a member of Loch Raven Skeet & Trap Club. His hobbies included boating, fishing, hunting, and woodworking. He especially loved building wooden boats.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 18, from 5-7 PM at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD 21078. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 7:00 PM. Interment will be held at a later date. Rev. G. Neale Wirtanen will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Elizabeth Martin, Rob Sloan, Katie Smith, and Amy Nicely.
