Obituary

Gary Lee Horley, a beloved father, dedicated public servant, and talented craftsman, passed away peacefully from natural causes on October 5, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on September 23, 1934, in Williamstown, Pennsylvania, Gary lived a life marked by passion, dedication, and a profound love for his family and community.

A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Gary served from August 6, 1957, to August 5, 1959, achieving the rank of Specialist 4. His military service laid a foundation for a remarkable career, as a Human Factors Engineer at the U.S. Army Human Engineering Lab and later with the U.S. Army Research Laboratory. His expertise and innovative spirit contributed significantly to the field and exemplified his commitment to service.

Gary earned a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design from the Philadelphia College of Art and cultivated a lifelong love for woodworking, creating beautiful pieces that showcased his artistic talent and attention to detail. He was also an avid wine aficionado who took great pleasure in fine dining experiences and indulging in his favorite treat-ice cream. A loyal football fan, Gary cherished the moments spent cheering for his favorite teams alongside family and friends. He loved trees and passed on the knowledge of tree identification to his girls.

He leaves behind his cherished daughters, and sons-in-law, who will remember him as a guiding light and a source of unwavering love.He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Barbara Horley, his parents, Richard and Evelyn Mellon Horley, and his brother. Gary was a member of the Order of St. Barbara, a military honor society for Field Artillery and Air Defense Artillery, reflecting his strong ties to the military community.

Services to honor Gary's life will be held on October 10, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Prior to the Mass, a public visitation will take place at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., on October 9, 2025, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM.
