With both sadness and celebration, we announce the passing of Gay Helen Specht, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who left this world peacefully on November 21, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on October 13, 1932, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Albert and Gladys Elko, Gay devoted her life to her family and her Lord and Savior, exemplifying the qualities of a loving wife, mother, and friend.
Gay was the cherished wife of the late Frederick Specht and a devoted mother to her seven children: Fred, Mark, Dean, Dawn, Philip, Stephanie, and Hans, along with their spouses. She took great pride in nurturing her home and raising her children, instilling in them the values of love, kindness, and faith. Gay's legacy will continue through her thirteen grandchildren, who brought her much joy. She is also survived by her dear siblings, Joan Cottier, Lance, and the late Albert and Donald Elko.
Gay came to Christ at a young age and grew in her faith at Grace Reformed Episcopal Church. Later in life, she was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Newtown Square, where she formed countless fond memories and connections with fellow congregation members. Gay found great fulfillment in actively engaging in her church's life, supporting missionaries, and sharing Christ's love with others. Along with Fred, she made sacrifices to provide a Biblical education for her children by driving them to Delaware County Christian School for over 27 years.
Gay's passions extended beyond her family; she relished family vacations in Ocean City, NJ, and enjoyed little trips to Lancaster County, savoring life's simple pleasures. An avid fan of the Eagles and Phillies, she delighted in going out to eat spaghetti and Dim Sum. She was famous for her cooking, including spaghetti and meatballs and many Hungarian dishes. Gay also cherished her online presence, where she enjoyed sharing insights on Facebook and playing spirited games of Words with Friends.
In honor of Gay Helen Specht's remarkable life, a funeral service will be held on December 5, 2025. A family visitation will begin at 9:30 AM, followed by the service at 10:30 AM at the Chvrch of Newtown Square (First Baptist Church of Newtown Square). Friends, family, and all whose lives Gay touched are invited to join in celebrating her life. A graveside service will immediately follow the services at the First Baptist Church of Newtown Square Cemetery.
As we gather to remember and celebrate Gay's extraordinary life, may we find comfort in the love and laughter she shared with all of us and in the enduring bonds of family she cultivated throughout her years. Messages of condolence and memories to share may be made at www.zellmanfuneralhome.com.
