Gayla Ann Starr, 87 a beloved member of the community, peacefully passed away on October 2, 2024. She was born on September 20, 1937, in Cumberland, MD, and spent her life dedicated to serving others as a librarian at the Harford County Public Library.

Throughout her career, Gayla was known for her passion for literature and her commitment to promoting education and literacy within the community. She took pride in her work, leaving a lasting impact on all those she encountered. Gayla's love for books extended beyond her professional life; she found solace in reading and indulging in mystery shows and movies.

A caring mother to John Wesley Gainey (Leuretha) David Wesley Gainey (Diana), Karl Logan Sweigart (Crystal), Earl Lee Sweigart (Shannan), and Sandra Lee Testerman (Buddy), grandmother of 12, great-grandmother of 13, and great-great-grandmother of 1. Gayla leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. She was a cherished sister to Alonzo and Carol, and a devoted member of the Rock Run Methodist Church.

In remembrance of Gayla's life, a Funeral Service will be held at the Zellman Funeral Home, P.A. on October 7, 2024, at 11:00 am. Prior to this, a Public Viewing will take place on October 6, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, offering friends and family the opportunity to pay their respects.

In accordance with her wishes, Gayla will be laid to rest on October 7, 2024, at Shuresville Road Cemetery in Darlington, MD. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the stories she held dear.

Gayla was preceded in death by: Kenneth Starr, Karl Sweigart, Alonzo Heavner, Beatrice Heavner.
