Gertrude Alice Daugherty
Gertrude Alice Daugherty, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away on October 13, 2012. She was 97.
She was born in Highlands, New Jersey, to the late Frank Oscar Thompson and Carrie Mable Liming Thompson.
Mrs. Daugherty was the wife of the late James Howard Daugherty. She was the loving mother of Patricia Lee Deblasi of Port Deposit, MD, and Geraldine Lynn Holderbaum and her husband Larry, of Wilmington, DE. She was the adored grandmother of Frederick J. Baldwin, Laurie Renee Gray and her husband Gary, Natalie Baldwin, Angela Kossakowski and her husband John, Dawn Simpson and her husband Edward, and Christina Gruzna and her husband Donald. She was the great-grandmother of Tricia Baldwin, Briana Baldwin, Cheyanne Hamming, Chad Hamming, Austin Simpson, James Weakland, Justin Slaughter and Gabrielle Slaughter. She was the dear sister of Leon and Arlene Thompson of Wilmington, DE, Muriel Gerdom of Bel Air, MD and the late Frank Oscar Thompson, Jr. She was predeceased by her sister-in-law Ruby Thompson and her brother-in-law Ernest Gerdom.
Mrs. Daugherty was a graduate of Aberdeen High School. During her school years, she was an esteemed swimmer and diver, winning several medals. She also played on the school's basketball team. She bowled throughout her life on several leagues and was a beautiful dancer. Mrs. Daugherty was a member of the Eastern Star and the Elk's Lodge.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2012 from 5-8 PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 South Washington Street, Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 11:00 AM, at Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, 101 South Union Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD. Pastor Norman Obenshain and Bishop Sheldon Sumpter will officiate. Interment will be held at Bel Air Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Frederick Baldwin, Donald Grunza, Edward Simpson, Leon Thompson, Jr., James Weakland and John Kossakowski.Robert Lanning will be an honorary pallbearer.
