Gwendolyn "Dee" Ashby, of Havre de Grace, MD, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2023, from complications of brain cancer. She was 76 years old.

Mrs. Ashby was born in Baltimore, MD, to George E. Cloman and Shirley G. Schroeder. She was the devoted wife of the late Jerry I. Ashby, and loving mother of Sarah E. Marking and her husband John, Jerry L. Ashby and his wife Teresa, and Pamela C. Koryn. She was the beloved grandmother of Adalind Marking, Emmett Marking, Jessica Smyth, Jerry L. Ashby, Jr., the late James Ashby, Austin Inscho, and Dillon Coyle, and great-grandmother of Emily Smyth, Elizabeth Smyth, Ronnie Fortney, Avery Ashby, Gunner Ashby, Gage Ashby, and Finn Ashby. She was also survived by her close friend and companion, John Fisher.

Mrs. Ashby was an active member of the Havre de Grace community and the Havre de Grace United Methodist Church. She enjoyed visiting with friends amidst the town landmarks and festivals, and hosting family gatherings at her home. She was talented in sewing, crocheting, and embroidery, and used these talents to bring joy to those around her. She loved animals and rescued her two cherished cats. She was vivacious, compassionate, and determined. She led a life well-lived and left a lasting mark on those closest to her.

A viewing will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023, from 6-8 PM, at Zellman Funeral Home, P.A., 123 S. Washington St., Havre de Grace, MD. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 12:00 PM, at Havre de Grace United Methodist Church, 101 South Union Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD 21078. Pastor Norman Obenshain will officiate. Interment will be held at Angel Hill Cemetery.
